Welcome to the Newbury Chamber Choir

We are a small and friendly group of singers who particularly enjoy music from across a wide range of European classical music.  We give three or four concerts a year, always with appropriate instrumental accompaniment and we’ve become known for reviving works from outside the mainstream choral repertory.

We recently changed our name from the Newbury Baroque Singers to reflect the wider range of music that we perform and to avoid confusion.

NOVEMBER 2008 CONCERT

"Anthem was choir's crowning glory"

Newbury Weekly News , 13 November 2008 - for full Concert Review click here.

The Newbury Chamber Choir, with its conductor, Edward Lambert, returned to the marvellous setting of St John’s Church in Newbury for this programme of classical masterpieces. Joined by four talented solo voices - Olivia Hinman (soprano), Jeanette Ager (mezzo-soprano), Paul Robinson (tenor) and Guy Edwards (baritone) - the concert began with one of the late masses of Haydn, immensely satisfying in its blend of artistry and unashamed entertainment. The instrumental ensemble of strings, horns and oboes performed the Handel Water Music Suite which - even though it may be an old friend! - still instills awe and wonder with its freshness and vitality.

The radiant Violin Concerto by Mozart was played by local hero James Toll, an extraordinarily gifted young musician, currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Handel’s anthem “Let Thy hand be strengthened”, written for the coronation of Geoge II, completed this exciting programme.
